Ayurveda Strengthens Body, Mind and Soul

Updated on April 23rd, 2022.

There was once a time when I was bedridden for over half of my waking life. I did not realize that as a mother of six kids that it was essential to keep self-care a priority, but I lost myself in the delight of giving them love, caring for them, watching them grow, protecting them, I thought, from the pains my own childhood had held for me. I over-compensated as my own inner child had never recovered from years of trauma.

This trauma and several injuries which caused damage to my spine resulted in a life of chronic pain by the age of 24, a working mother of three children. The epidural given during the birth of my third child struck my spine, causing electric shocks in both legs as the attendants ordered me to not move. It was a learning hospital and I developed hives within 24 hours and had to wait 8 hours for a doctor to see me and prescribe some Benadryl, which cured the hives.

I resumed working when my baby was three weeks old, but when he was six weeks old, I became very ill and had to be hospitalized. I had an infection acquired in the hospital which spread throughout my abdomen. IV antibiotics saved my life, but from that point on, pain became a constant companion. I kept training as a medical transcriptionist and kept very busy caring for my three children. My partner was not very supportive, so I took on more.

Stumbling through life as a wounded healer, spiritual teachings and natural remedies and nutrition had been emphasized and utilized by my mother called my attention, and I began to study many avenues of healing while studying anatomy and physiology.

Yoga and meditation were the practices I returned to repeatedly. My parents taught me meditation at the age of 5, and my mother taught me some basic yoga asanas. Aromatherapy and a vegetarian macrobiotic diet were also a frequent part of our lives.

Ayurveda means the science of life. When we walk in balance, our health naturally improves as the inner intelligence of our cells illuminates our physiology. When we fall out of balance, our physiology becomes susceptible to disease. When we have unresolved trauma within ourselves, we may have feelings of shame and unworthiness that we may fail to care for ourselves in a loving and kind manner. We may become attached to unwholesome, addictive behavior.

Ayurveda helps us to shift from unhealthy patterns to healthy, loving patterns. Making changes bit by bit, with time healthy practices replace the addiction.

Maharishi AryuVedic Wellness and Integrative Medicine is unique in that it is consciousness based, and every practitioner also practices Transcendental Meditation.

vTranscendental Meditation is an effortless technique which facilitates a state of restful alertness. This naturally.enhances our inner intelligence, which therefore strengthens the immune system.

There have been over 600 peer based research studies done at hospitals and universities like Stanford which illustrate the positive effects Transcendental Meditation has on every system in the human physiology.

Aryuvedic consultations enables you to take your health into your own hands, and all recommendations are designed to correlate with those of your medical doctor.

A Zoom consultation could help provide you with helpful answers to questions you may have about your health, and suggestions for diet, routine, essential oils, crystals and herbs specifically designed for your constitution (doshas type).

During these times of Quarantine, Ayurveda is a perfect self-help program because all of the practices can usually be done at home.

My own self healing has rapidly accelerated since I began my graduate course at Maharishi International University. I became a massage therapist 17 years ago and have learned many self-healing techniques along the way and continue to study. I graduated in December and am now a professional Ayurvedic practitioner.

I went back to college 14 years ago, after hurting my neck giving massages. I had to keep working and ended up having neck surgery, so took two short all online semesters. I gave a massage one month after that surgery. I was the single mom of six kids and two grandkids at the time.

Somehow I survived and began to trust my intuition again and found a Hatha yoga teacher who came to my apartment complex to teach me.

I have experienced and witnessed too many miracles to count. I still have challenges, but will go back to my meditation (20 minutes twice a day), and when things seem too crazy in this world, my practice brings me back to a peaceful place.

It is in this act of surrender that we are in alignment with Ayurveda. May your path be filled with love, light and guidance. Rainbow Blessings and Namaste.
